Food labels and Ingredient Lists

This month’s topic is about dissecting the food label and ingredient list. I hope the information sheds some light on understanding food labels and helps you to make better grocery purchases. The next newsletter will put everything together and show you how to apply the information practically.
Please reach out if you have any questions. 🙂

This is from the Government of Canada website and shows the new nutrition facts table format and how it was improved. I really like the footnote at the bottom now that helps us understand how much is too much. Potassium was added as Canadians are not getting enough of this mineral.

In addition there are updates to the format of the List of Ingredients.
Here is the link for more information on these two topics and more. https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/food-labelling-changes.html
