The Steps to Proper Digestion

1. Relax when eating. Your body is just not able to digest properly when stressed.
2. Chew your food as much as possible before swallowing. The recommendation is between 30 and 50 chews. Digestion begins in the mouth and this sets the stage for comfortable digestion.
3. Be “in the moment” when you eat. This means no watching tv, facebooking etc. Give your meal your full attention and don’t rush. You’ll be glad you did.
4. Drinking during a meal. You can drink right up to eating but should restrict to less than 1 cup during the meal and then wait an hour to give your digestive juices a chance to do their job. Beverages dilute the hydrochloric acid in your stomach making it harder for our bodies to break down and absorb your food.
5. How much we eat. Moderation in eating is an important habit to develop. “Hara Hachi Bu” translated this means eat until you are 80% full. This is a rule the Okinawa centurions follow in their daily life.
I know I am still working on getting better at this myself. I have noticed, however, when I do how much better I feel for it. Please try these out and let me know if they worked.
